English Ivy’s Has Partnered With Indiana Youth Group (IYG) For the 2023 Food Drive!

Indiana Youth Group (IYG) is a non-profit organization that helps empower members of the LGBTQIA+ community to gain confidence, express themselves authentically, and form meaningful relationships. Their organization is a safe haven that embraces inclusivity and fosters restorative practices for all individuals. And for the past 10+ years, they have expanded their creed to help Indiana’s youth by providing food and other resources.

Although they have done this food drive for quite some time, right now, they need your help to continue their mission. With the past and current economic pitfalls affecting so many families, donations are more important than ever before. That’s why Indiana Youth Group (IYG) is hosting a food drive to collect as many nonperishable or canned goods as possible. By donating these items, you can make sure Indiana’s children get the nourishment they need while helping IYG reach its goals of providing food security and access to resources for Indiana’s youth.

The Indiana Youth Group food drive is simple. All you need to do is purchase non-perishable or canned food items and donate them to your nearest IYG donation center or drop-off location. The organization has centers located in cities all over Indiana, so you can easily find one near you. They accept donations on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and the food drive runs from now until February 20^th. So, just head to the Indiana Youth Group website and search for your nearest donation center. Right now, English Ivy’s Eatery & Pub is an official, designated drop-off location in Downtown Indianapolis.

Guidelines for IYG Food Drive Donations

Once you’ve found the closest location, it’s time to head to the grocery store! When shopping for food donations, make sure to keep in mind Indiana Youth Group’s guidelines. They ask that all donations be non-perishable or canned goods with a long shelf life. This includes items such as canned soups, beans, vegetables, and fruits. Other suggested items include peanut butter, rice, cereal, crackers, and pasta sauces. Indiana Youth Group also has a list of additional food donations they can accept on their website.

Dropping Off Your Donations

Once you have purchased your donations it’s time to drop them off at the Indiana Youth Group donation center or alternative drop-off location, such as English Ivy’s Eater & Pub. All Indiana Youth Group donation centers are open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. When you arrive, make sure to bring your donations inside and have them checked in by a volunteer staff member. Then, the Indiana Youth Group will transport these items to their food pantries and provide much needed assistance to Indiana’s youth.

Today is National Coming Out Day, a day when both members and supporters of the LGBTQIA+ community celebrate their identities, show pride in who they are, and demonstrate advocacy for gay rights. This day is an important reminder that everyone should be free to be who they are, and that we all deserve to be treated with respect.

Supporters like yourself and millions of others around the nation advocate that everyone should be free to be their authentic selves, and that love is love, no matter what form it takes. Most importantly, this day is meant to send a message of love and acceptance to those who are still “in the closet.”

LGBTQIA+ Pride

Gay pride has come a long way since its humble beginnings in the gay rights movement of the 1970s, though there’s still a long way to go before everyone is truly equal. Today, gay pride is celebrated all over the world, with massive parades and festivals that attract millions of people. And while there is still much progress to be made in terms of LGBTQIA+ rights, National Coming Out Day is a reminder that the LGBTQIA+ rights movement has made incredible progress in recent years.

So today, let’s celebrate all of the progress we’ve made, and recommit ourselves to the fight for equality for all. We’ll keep fighting until everyone can live their truth freely and without fear.

Support For Those Who are Ready to Come Out

For many people, coming out as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or any other LGBTQA+ identity can be a scary and difficult experience. But it is so important to remember that you are not alone. There are so many resources and support systems available to help you through this process.

Here are just a few of the organizations that offer support for LGBTQA+ people:

✤ The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) is a national organization that works to promote understanding and acceptance of LGBTQA+ people.

✤ The Trevor Project is a national organization that provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQA+ young people.

✤ The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is a national organization that works to promote equality for LGBTQA+ people.

There are also many local organizations and support groups that can provide assistance. Do some research to find the resources that are available in your area. Remember, you are not alone. There is a whole community of people who are here to support you!

A beloved Broadway-turned-movie classic has come to the Indiana Repertory Theatre! Catch the famous show, Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling, presented by OneAmerica Mainstage this weekend! Showing times run 2 hours and 20 minutes, which includes a 15 minute intermission. You can see a show anytime, from today through June 5^th. Who doesn’t love Tom Cruise? Swoon over the Navy’s top action aviator heroes this weekend by catching Top Gun – Maverick at the IMAX Theater in the Indiana State Museum! Showings started today and go through June 9^th this year. Relish in the shenanigans and adventures of Maverick, Goose, Lt. Bradshaw, and all the other cult favorites this Memorial Day weekend. This classic, good-time movie is rated PG-13 and has a running time of 131 minutes. Ticket prices are $17 for adults, $16 for seniors, and $14 for kids 12 and under.

‘Michigander’ Presented By Rock for Riley

If you like great music and a good cause, go Downtown this Friday, May 27, to check out Michigander – Rock for Riley at the Hi-Fi Annex. Presented by Rock for Riley, this show will also feature music by Public Universal Friend. Best of all, 100% of the proceeds made from the concert will directly benefit the Riley Hospital for Children. Rock for Riley is an admired philanthropy group that was founded and still operated by Indiana University School of Medicine students.
