Many LGBTQIA+ kids and teens face many challenges and obstacles in their daily lives, but there are ways to help them. Whether it’s through a donation of time, food, or money, you can make a difference in the lives of LGBTQIA+ youths by supporting them and their community.

How to Show Your Support for the LGBTQIA+ Youth Community in Indianapolis

1. Donate

Donate to an LGBTQ-friendly food pantry or other charity organization that serves LGBTQIA+ people. In fact, Indiana Youth Group is hosting another food pantry drive this month for the LGBTQIA+ youth community! The organization has centers located in cities all over Indiana, so you can easily find one near you. They accept canned and non-perishable food donations on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Currently, English Ivy’s is partnering with Indiana Youth Group too! So, you can also drop your donations off at English Ivy’s, anytime. Every ounce of assistance will be profoundly appreciated. We are striving to ensure that our young people don’t go hungry. 4. Participate – Participate in online communities for queer youth where they can find acceptance and support from peers who understand their struggles firsthand.

5. Speak Out – Speak out against bullying directed towards queer youth both online and offline.

6. Challenge – Actively challenge homophobic language when you hear it used around you.

7. SupportSupport businesses owned by members of the LGBTQIA+ community whenever possible.

8. Educate – Educate yourself on issues facing queer people today so that you have the knowledge needed to take action when necessary.

9. Advocate – Advocate for policies at school or in your local government that protect LGBTQIA+ people from discrimination. Be sure to vote!

10. Share – Share the stories of queer individuals with your friends, family, and anyone else who will listen so that their experiences are understood by a wider audience.

English Ivy’s Has Partnered With Indiana Youth Group (IYG) For the 2023 Food Drive!

Indiana Youth Group (IYG) is a non-profit organization that helps empower members of the LGBTQIA+ community to gain confidence, express themselves authentically, and form meaningful relationships. Their organization is a safe haven that embraces inclusivity and fosters restorative practices for all individuals. And for the past 10+ years, they have expanded their creed to help Indiana’s youth by providing food and other resources.

Although they have done this food drive for quite some time, right now, they need your help to continue their mission. With the past and current economic pitfalls affecting so many families, donations are more important than ever before. That’s why Indiana Youth Group (IYG) is hosting a food drive to collect as many nonperishable or canned goods as possible. By donating these items, you can make sure Indiana’s children get the nourishment they need while helping IYG reach its goals of providing food security and access to resources for Indiana’s youth.

The Indiana Youth Group Food Drive
February 1st – 20th

The Indiana Youth Group food drive is simple. All you need to do is purchase non-perishable or canned food items and donate them to your nearest IYG donation center or drop-off location. The organization has centers located in cities all over Indiana, so you can easily find one near you. They accept donations on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and the food drive runs from now until February 20th. So, just head to the Indiana Youth Group website and search for your nearest donation center. Right now, English Ivy’s Eatery & Pub is an official, designated drop-off location in Downtown Indianapolis.

Guidelines for IYG Food Drive Donations

Once you’ve found the closest location, it’s time to head to the grocery store! When shopping for food donations, make sure to keep in mind Indiana Youth Group’s guidelines. They ask that all donations be non-perishable or canned goods with a long shelf life. This includes items such as canned soups, beans, vegetables, and fruits. Other suggested items include peanut butter, rice, cereal, crackers, and pasta sauces. Indiana Youth Group also has a list of additional food donations they can accept on their website.

Dropping Off Your Donations

Once you have purchased your donations it’s time to drop them off at the Indiana Youth Group donation center or alternative drop-off location, such as English Ivy’s Eater & Pub. All Indiana Youth Group donation centers are open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. When you arrive, make sure to bring your donations inside and have them checked in by a volunteer staff member. Then, the Indiana Youth Group will transport these items to their food pantries and provide much needed assistance to Indiana’s youth.
